A Gentle Reminder: Stay Soft, Even When It’s Hard
...because you deserve to move through this world without letting it turn you cold
You're reading this because something small tipped you over today.
Not big. Not catastrophic.
Just… a wrong coffee order.
A late train.
A snide email.
And suddenly it felt like everything was too much.
You’re not dramatic.
You’re not weak.
You’re just tired of holding everything together.
This is your permission slip to let go. To exhale. To remember: You are allowed to feel it all without turning bitter.
When you start to snap…
Here’s what you might notice:
Your jaw clenched, again
A sarcastic comment itching at the tip of your tongue
A desire to scream into the void over something objectively minor
The thought: Why does everything always happen to me?
That’s not overreacting. That’s accumulation. Tiny moments stacking on top of each other like bricks, until you’re buried under the weight of what no one else sees.
But here's the thing…
You don’t have to let it change who you are.
You don’t have to meet chaos with chaos.
How to stay soft (even when the world feels sharp)
1. Slow your reaction
Before you roll your eyes, sigh dramatically, or match someone’s rudeness.. pause
Take three deep breaths
Ask yourself: Will I care about this in three days?
2. Protect your mornings
Don’t scroll immediately
Drink water
Stretch
Speak kindly to yourself before the world gets a chance to speak at all
3. Let small things be small
A spilled coffee is just a spilled coffee
Not a prophecy
Not proof that the day is ruined
4. Romanticise your resilience
Smile at the barista
Hold the door
Offer someone grace before they’ve earned it
That is power. Quiet, unfuckwithable power
5. Don’t take everything personally
Someone else’s bad day is not your burden
Their tone, their rush, their mood.. it’s not about you
Return to sender. With love
6. Give your softness somewhere to land
A voice note to a friend
A walk with music that gets it
A journal entry that starts with: “I’m trying not to let this harden me…”
Because I Love Myself — Playlist
One last thing
There will be days that don’t go your way.
Plans fall apart. People disappoint. Your own body feels foreign.
But even then, especially then, you get to decide who you are.
Let the world be loud
Let the timeline be late
Let the coffee spill
Stay soft. Stay steady. Stay you.
You’ll thank yourself for it

Let the timeline be late, let the coffee spill - is exactly what I needed to hear today. Simplest reminders are the best ❤️🩹
"You're reading this because something small tipped you over today."
Who went and told B my secret?
It is currently Monday morning and I had already made my to-do list as I am fond of doing but due to a timezone mixup, I missed a meeting. So that just sort of threw me off.
Decided to come read your substack as it has a way of grounding me and making me focus on just the words.
So I'm going to let the coffee spill be just that, a spill. The day isn't ruined yet.
Thanks for sharing xx
